Since the world's creation, there have been many incarnations of God.
The texts that contain descriptions of God's infinite incarnations are called Puranas.
Puranas have been composed to attain God through devotion, knowledge, and detachment.
All the deeds that God performs in the mortal world in the infinite incarnations of God, the descriptions of devotees' characters, the descriptions of the past and future—all those Leela(divine play) stories are described through the Puranas under the instructions of God himself. So that man can read them to attain salvation and the ultimate position.
