Why should we not commit sins  ?

Actually no one should commit any sinful act. Especially when we are on the path of devotion, our responsibility increases. The sins we commit, whether knowingly or unknowingly, our sinful acts create obstacles in our spiritual life and also in our attainment of God. The sins that a man commits cannot be freed from without bearing the consequences of those sins i.e. without bearing the consequences of those sinful acts. For this reason we must try not to commit any sinful act.

 It is described in Bhagavat Mahapuran that due to the sins of a human being, there are changes in his age / lifespan. Just like Ravana of Treta Yuga had received the blessing of living for millions of years from Lord Mahadev. But due to the sins committed by Ravana, he died an untimely death at the hands of Lord Shri Ram before his life could be completed. On the other hand, Lord Mahadev's beloved devotee and his vehicle Sri Nandi ji had a short life. His selfless devotion to Lord Mahadev gave him the reward of long life.

 According to Bhavishya Malika, due to the burden of sins committed in Kaliyug, the age of Kaliyug which was 432000 years got reduced to only 5000 years. The sins due to which the age of Kali Yuga got reduced are given below:

 1. Killing of parents

 2. Cow slaughter

 3. Telling lies 

 4. Kidnapping women 

 5. To betray

 6. Animal slaughter

 7. Betraying friends

 8. Killing wife 

   etc.

Due to these things the age of KaliYuga has become less.

It means "Although the lifespan of Kali Yuga is said to be 432,000 years, due to the burden of sins, its age will be reduced to 5,000 years."
